Sometimes , It Is good when us, as reviewers,  just shut the fuck up, and stop  trying to analyze someone´s work of art, or art manifestation. 

So, I just had a short conversation with one of Mexico´s best contemporary illustrator,
Roxy Love.

I don´t know why we don´t see all these un-perfect / perfect projects more published, we have to wait a lot ! And even when they are published, they don´t receive enough attention, and the credit for their work... But that´s why we are here. Everytime I meet this ART GIANTS , I feel more comfortable with my creatives generation. I admire your work, Roxy and the rest of the crew´s work of Taquitojocoque. My conversation? Here.

Hello ! I´m Roxy Love //

I was borned 24 years ago , in Nuevo Laredo,Tamaulipas./ Mexico.

I live in Mexico City. //More than, a style, or technique, THIS IS MY WAY OF LIFE, MY JOB and EVERYTHING.  

My art collective name is taquitojocoque , my partner is Julio Vzm ( used to do collage, in 09 retires from that, because he wanted to stop trying the so called "freelance", and do something more structured). So we started Taquitojocoque: Julio Vzm, Agusto ( my "son", a 3 year old , basset hound ( " he poops, vomits and that, may I say it ? , is Art  these days" )   , and me. 

My Influences : my childhood, the animals, plants, countries, the cultural "behaviors",the way people dresses, music, and those small things in the world that make us feel special. my friends.my texmex culture, my family,cinema, everything I see, and perceived.

Nuit Blanche : Noir Paris

Set in a film noir Paris,Nuit Blanche explores a fleeting moment between two strangers, revealing their brief connection in a hyper real fantasy. The film captures MAGICALLY, a surprisingly violent moment of connection between these two strangers attracted to each other with such magnetism that neither panes of glass nor speeding vehicles can keep them apart. 

The entire film is told in slow-motion, with sculptural explosions of glass and water enshrining the two would-be lovers like heavenly gossamer. The elongated seconds echo the longing each character feels for the other, and time itself seems to be an expression of their aching desires.

The return of the repressed is a crucial theme, a key to understanding recent history. "The project of the West, the Nietzschean project, has been to drive out religion and to produce a secular society in which men and women make their own values because morality is gone. Then suddenly radical religion returns from the Third World. How can you not laugh at that? How can you not find that a deep historical irony?" (Hanif Kureishi, in International Herald Tribune).

According to Freud, the very act of entering into civilized society entails the repression of various archaic, primitive desires. For Freud repression is a normal part of human development; indeed, the analysis of dreams, literature, jokes, and "Freudian slips" illustrates the ways that our secret desires continue to find outlet in perfectly well-adjusted individuals. However, when we are faced with obstacles to satisfaction of our libido's cathexis, when we experience traumatic events, or when we remain fixated on earlier phases of our development, the conflict between the libido and the ego (or between the ego and the superego) can lead to alternative sexual discharges.

The return of the repressed is the process whereby repressed elements, preserved in the unconscious, tend to reappear, in consciousness or in behavior, in the shape of secondary and more or less unrecognizable "derivatives of the unconscious." This return of the repressed, of ideologies forced to marginalization, of sexuality subject to forced secrecy, has resulted, in recent years, in an almost dramatic change of a society filled with anguish, hallucinations, repression imposed by unnecessary regulations that serve to the repressive violence of governments against their own citizens. Instruction Pieces

The use of words as primary tool on Art practices, pushes the limits of more traditional creative orders and often involves the active engagement of viewers. This engagement, as a practice of art, is ephemeral, as every other life act. 
The huge difference :  "doing" and "done". 

Three art movements that aim to evoke fun, ephemeral, lack-of-worth ( monetary speaking ),and  "anti-art" discourses, and involved with the use of words, were Fluxus,Happenings and conceptual art .

For over fifty years , Yoko Ono has played a decisive role in these three art movements. 

Ono´s interdisciplinary approach to her artistic practice, which uses words as primary tool, has reached contemporary art, and consumed many of the definitions conceptual art assumed.Her famous and assertive approach to Art as words in included in her book Grapefruit: A Book of Instructions and Drawings by Yoko Ono (Simon & Schuster 2000).

 When presented the book in New York (circa 1961) , it was called "concerts" . These concerts comprised three pieces: A Grapefruit in the World of Park, A Piece for Strawberries and Violins and AOS.In this later work, Ono wrapped two performers in gauze, back to back, and dangled an assortment of empty bottles and cans from their ankles and waists. Their instructions were to walk from one end of the stage to the other, without making any noise. This injunction against sound, coupled with the difficulty of one performer moving backwards while the other moved forward, and caused them to move extremely slowly, an effect which resembled a slow-motion film.

 Now the viewer / the reader / the "instructions follower", is the artist and the artistic element, the center piece.The result, an ephemeral event  that can be understood as art. / Eva Guerra Luján

For over the past year, Grey Granite has been working closely with his partner in crime J. Brookinz to craft an album that pushed the creative boundaries of both artists. Lust Poisons Pride, an exploration of emotions and personal motives, was created featuring a sound that blends the duo's familiar hip-hop tendencies with electro-pop, indie rock, and industrial.

The concept aims to capture the essence of magazine reading, which people have been enjoying for decades: an engaging and unique reading experience in which high-quality writing and stunning imagery build up immersive stories. 

The concept uses the power of digital media to create a rich and meaningful experience, while maintaining the relaxed and curated features of printed magazines. It has been designed for a world in which interactivity, abundant information and unlimited options could be perceived as intrusive and overwhelming.The purpose of publishing this concept video is first and foremost to spark a discussion around the digital reading experience in general, and digital reading platforms in particular.

“I wanted to construct something that would be a kind of mathematical equation, very simple and direct, connecting three elements: material power, spiritual power, and a kind of unavoidable, historically repeated consequence of this conjunction, which was tragedy. I wanted a sky of bones, a floor of money, and a column of communion wafers to unite these two elements.”

This work is called Mission/Missions (how to Build a Cathedral) and it is a breathtaking piece of visual allusion.This exhibit by Cildo Meireles ( Brazil)  includes 600,000 pennies, 2,000 hanging hanging bones, and a pillar of 800 communion wafers. I saw these master piece at MACBA, Barcelona,Spring Art Exhibition 2009.

 The importance, of art these days is extreme. There was a time  where art was encapsulated, an isolated alien in boxes, and only if you where enough studied, or intelligent to understand "nonsense" ( the way most people called art) , you could take part of the whole Art World. Now, Art has taken the place where education should/could be. Art is the dialogue between the urban scene and its living- territorials.

It ´s suitable these days to understand Art as the interceptor of social mass ideas( ideals),critiques, political discourses, state of mind. We live in a complex world, because each one of our art manifestations are "structuring a world" of its own. ( Daniel Birnbaum, accurately decided to name last 53. Ed. Venezia´s Art Biennale:Fare Mondi // Making Worlds). Let´s be honest, nowadays is the moment when art is fully understood, and felt as an every-day-life-issue. As urban-being as I am, Nomad ( and happy for that) I have found the public space, and the interaction on it, the best place where you can express individuality. The intense media growth has set us on an art chapter where we are sharing ( blending?) perspectives on identity, design, economics,language,architecture, and being human. That art chapter is: Public Art. 
BRIGHT LIGHT / Canadian Public Art 

A ground-breaking six-week series of public art exhibits, installations, performances and special events commissioned by the City of Vancouver to mark the occasion of the 2010 Olympic Winter and Paralympic Games. The result of an extraordinary collaboration between 14 arts organizations active in the neighbourhood, Bright Light takes public art to new places. Projects range from site-specific artworks, light-based installations, video projections and live web links to outdoor performances, publications, a parade, a festival, interactive community events and lively gathering spaces.

Some Objects of Desire

The extraordinary.Every time is much more difficult to find it. Seeking for it, that´s my habit. Seeking for that I don´t really understand or comprehend. So, when living in Barcelona, I met "him", a visual artist with an incredible vision about "the contemporary", and all its odds. 


He invited me to MACBA´s Private Collection "Time as Matter: New Pieces" Open Show.And then we met: The Iconic Weiner and me.

Some Objects of Desire, with its inexact mathematical formula and ambiguous language, between descriptive and metaphoric, affirms the relationship between different objects and each and every one of its viewers. It seems to evoke the Bronxite Lawrence Weiner (b.1942) definition of art as the relation between human beings and objects, and objects in relation to human beings. Since the 70´s, Weiner has been a key figure in Conceptual Art. In 1964 he started the series of painting Propeller based on TV test cards. Through this image, immediately recognisable and reproducible, Weiner cancelled not only decisions in composition, but also elements such as inspiration,surprise, expression or self-definition,disavowing and even parodying contemporary subjective or romantic tendencies in expressionist painting. Each of the work in this series has the same price, confirming that the works had being conceived conceptually and not as individual objects. Nonetheless, the works were not accepted as ideas, but as paintings. Later on, in an attempt to eliminate the importance of the artist, Weiner created the Removal Paintings series , which he spray-painted , eliminating a piece of the canvas, usually in one of the corners. In this mechanical process, the person receiving the work would say what size, color and shape her or she wanted to removed from the painting. Though these painting undermine their work authority by inviting and then incorporating the authority of the viewer, the works still had specific qualities. 

Another Weiner exhibition consisted of a book titled Statements. Obviously the work was presented only as text. Since that time, his work was dealt primarily with the use of Language.*  It is through language that Weiner finds an instrument to present material relationships in an objective manner. Language, becomes for the artist an instrument that eliminates references to the subjectivity of the author, the artist´s hand,ability or taste. 

In 1969 he published his declaration of Intent:

1. THE ARTIST MAY CONSTRUCT THE PIECE

2. THE PIECE MAY BE FABRICATED

3. THE PIECE NEED NOT TO BE BUILT EACH BEING EQUAL AND CONSISTENT WITH THE INTENT OF THE ARTIST THE DECISIONS AS TO CONDITION RESTS WITH THE RECEIVER UPON THE OCCASION OF RECEIVERSHIP.

His unique ideas clearly favor ideas over material form and have manifested themselves on postcards,movies,records,manhole covers or even sugar packets, together with the walls of artistic institutions. He taught us language is accessible, democratic,subjective and belonging to all those that can read or write. And that´s how art should be. / Eva Guerra.
